Professionals

The Treasure Basket Association is dedicated to supporting the emotional well-being of children and families across Worthing, Littlehampton, and Bognor. Our mission is to increase access to Play Therapy and therapeutic resources for children aged 4-11. Through our work, we provide clarity and calm for children facing emotional distress. Our services include one-to-one therapy, small group sessions, and support for parents and families.

Research shows that Play Therapy helps children manage and overcome emotional difficulties, which is reflected in our history of success. Our work helps children reach their full potential socially, academically, and physically while strengthening family bonds. We founded our organisation in response to restricted school budgets, which have impacted Play Therapy support for children.

“Our goal is to collaborate closely with pertinent partners and professionals to achieve optimal outcomes for children and young people.”

Referral Criteria

Our referral criteria’s is based on anything that is causing a child or family emotional upset or distress.

Referrals are accepted from schools, family centres, health organisations, and private families. Due to our small size and limited funds, we operate on voluntary hours. For prompt assistance, please contact us via email. Upon initial contact, we’ll conduct a telephone consultation with the coordinator to assess the child’s emotional history, difficulties, and your expectations. Once funding is secured, a therapist will be assigned, and a consultation with the referrer or family will be scheduled.

Sessions occur weekly for one hour at a consistent time and place. After eight sessions, a review determines whether the intervention is short-term (10-15 sessions) or long-term (beyond 15 sessions). Healthy endings are crucial; therefore, the child is informed about the last session for a positive goodbye. A minimum term of 12 sessions is required to support the child’s healing, as per our partnership agreement.

Case Study

Tommy struggled at school and faced frequent disciplinary issues, leading to concerns of exclusion. After a two-and-a-half-year journey to obtain a medical diagnosis, he was referred to Play Therapy. Through 20 sessions, Tommy and his therapist focused on managing boundaries and coping with difficult situations. The therapy resulted in a significant improvement in his behavior both at school and at home. Tommy’s aggressive tendencies diminished, and he became more engaged in learning and building friendships. Now, thriving academically and emotionally, he has even earned a scholarship, demonstrating remarkable progress in his journey.
